Many of the smaller paintings were painted on location. Larger pieces are painted in the studio often using the plein air studies as color reference. I love to travel to paint where I'm inspired by the unique qualities I find.  

Painting and drawing from a live model is an important practice and I love the challenge of capturing a likeness in portrait and the gesture of the figure. And I love painting animals from the ones I live with and love and the ones I meet along the way.

Flowers, vegetables and fruits are living and changing things. That is their appeal and what makes them challenging to paint. Many still life paintings I do are fresh from the garden.

The paintings of Italy were mostly painted on location. I travel to Italy frequently and love the land, the buildings and the people.
